Glasgow

Scotland

Meself and me sister Wanda got a Ryanair flight to Prestwick which isn’t in Glasgow despite what they tell ya.

WHERE TO STAY

We stayed in Jury’s on Jamaica Street which was kinda nice coz I’d been to Jury’s the odd time which was nice and I’d be used to that kinda thing. Wanda probably wouldn’t be. It was close enough to where we got off the train from the airport and near enough to the shops and the bars and anythin’ else we could need. The rooms were pretty much what ya’d expect from Jury’s. There’s loads of places to stay to suit different budgets although I won’t lie, me ma won 2 nights B&B in a competition in Centra and gave it to us so we didn’t actually have a budget. If we did, we’d be in a cardboard box somewhere.

WHERE TO EAT

Well I found in Glasgow there was a fair amount of Indian restaurants and so meself and Wanda were havin’ tandoori and chicken korma and all the rest of it so needless to say, I’d a severe case of the runs by the end of the weekend. We found a gay chipper as well called Santorinis which was nice, but confusin’ coz I don’t really know what was gay about it. Don’t even try to eat haggis. It’s disgustin’. I couldn’t even tell ya what in the name of jayzis is in it.

WHERE TO DRINK

Me and Wanda found a place called Frankenstein’s which is kinda themed with all Frankenstein stuff everywhere which was nice a bit disturbin’ all at the same time. Jongleours is great for a bit of comedy but I hadn’t a jayzis what half them were sayin’. It was half way through before some told me it was in English. I didn’t believe him though. Convinced it was Dutch. If you’re a gay, there’s a place called the Pink Triangle in Merchant City. Bennett’s and the Polo Lounge are the most famous and are both great craic. Wanda met loads of hairdressers she knew from Peter Mark so was only delighted with herself. Michelle McManus that won Pop Idol was playin’ so that was nice. Actually it wasn’t.

WHAT TO DO

Glasgow is great for the bit of shoppin’. There’s Argyle Street, Sauchiehall Street and Buchannan Street all together and all the big shops are there, even Dunnes believe it or not. It was mad seein’ Dunnes outside Ireland, like that time I saw one in Fuengirola when I was a kid. I’m sure there’s museums and stuff like that but me arse if me and Wanda were goin’ lookin’ for them. We did go out to Parkhead to see the Celtic Stadium, me bein’ a fan and all, but it was closed so we just saw the outside of it. We did see another Dunnes near it though.

OTHER TIPS

Be careful in Parkhead if ya go. It’s worse than Iraq. Buy loads of Irn Bru. That’s what Scottish people do drink, although we have it in our local Tesco.
