Meself and Gloria got the train from Bratislava to Budapest although it wasn’t a very nice train.
Well let’s not even try and fool ourselves here, the best place to stay in Budapest is the Agape Apartments. We’re talkin’ kitchen, we’re talkin’ a sofa bed, a double bed, a bit of a balcony and its right beside Blaha Square, whatever that is. All I know is that its half way between bleedin’ everythin’ so I was happy. It was also 40 quid a night regardless of how many people stay. Ya could have had a whole family in there, aunties and uncles and all. There’s all the posh places as well like the Gresham and the Intercontinental and all but did they have a microwave? No I doubt it.
Again, like most places in this part of the world, ya can always find a kebab on every street. There’s all the fast food places as well and there’s a lovely TGI Fridays on Oktogon that we were well of. I was goin’ to try some Hungarian food coz I was hungry but I couldn’t understand a word of it and there wasn’t a chance of me gettin’ fooled like that time I ate rabbit in Malta. Tesco in the Arena Plaza doesn’t open 24 hours so don’t let anyone tell ya otherwise. Pack of bastards.
Well sadly we never got to go out drinkin’ so I can’t report on the best place to drink. To be honest, I text a few people I know who’d been here before and none of them could recommend anywhere so I’m guessin’ nightlife is crap. We did look one of the nights but it was Sunday so that’s probably why although there was loads of strip clubs. Budapest is mad for a bit of lapdancin’. Its bleedin’ everywhere. Oh and casinos. We did find one place on the Monday but it wasn’t that great. Just to point out, the drinks aren’t free in Club Tropicana. They threw me out over that!
There’s a good bit to do in Budapest to suit everyone. For the bit of sight seein’, there’s the old Buda place with the castle and that or ya can go on a nice boat on the Danube. If ya want to do the bit of shoppin’, ya can either go to Fashion Street or Arena Plaza. I preferred Arena Plaza to be honest coz there was more there. We never got a chance to go to the statue park and we wanted to. It’s this park with all these old communist statues. I’d say it’d be deadly. Kinda like Stephens Green only with a few Lenins.
Do a bit of research if ya plan on goin’ to a club to make sure ya know where it is and it’s open. Gettin’ to the airports a pain in the ear. Now I know why they’re buildin’ the metro to the one in Dublin. Go to the Statue Park. RAGIN’ I missed it.
