Me and me ma got a package deal with Budget Travel to Lanzarote. Me cousin Anita was goin’ to come but couldn’t get anyone to mind her kids.
We stayed in the Fariones Apartments which are basically like anywhere else ya’d see in Spain although in fairness, they’re not real high or anything. We had a 1 bedroom apartment and we were near enough to the beach. There’s 2 pools and there’s all sun terraces with loungers and that. There’s a bar and a restaurant and ya can get snacks and that durin’ the day while you’re lyin’ at the pool which is clearly what I did coz movin’ wasn’t something I had planned on doin’ for the week.
Me ma does be awful well of the Tex Mex restaurants and there’s loads of them all over Puerto Del Carmen. She spent the whole week lookin’ for a Chinese that Betty Ennis told her to go to and d’ya think we could find it? After me bein’ subjected to 3 Chineses in the space of a week and everytime we left she’d say “no I don’t think that’s it”. I was awfully well of El Rodogen in the old town which was surprisin’ considerin’ its all the Spanish food and I don’t normally be too well of that. Once I know what I do be eatin’ I do be grand. Once it’s not rabbit or dog or anything.
There’s a strip in Puerto Del Carmen where all the bars and clubs are although the only thing is, it’s awfully long. The Casino is up one end of it and that’s real posh. They were givin’ me awful looks in there. Then as ya go down, there’s places like Route 66, Waikiki and Paradise which are like disco bars. Then as ya get up to the old town there’s the Irish bars and ya know the usual shite with that, karaoke, crap band and all that bollix. Although me ma was delighted coz some auldfella that used to play in the Towers in Ballymun was on. I thought he was brutal, whoever he was.
The beach is nice and in fairness, what else do ya come to Lanzarote for except the sun? Actually we came for Annette Delaney’s weddin’ which was an absolutely lovely occasion. I’m awfully well of the Delaney’s. We’d gas craic with them all. Other than that, there’s a big shoppin’ centre near the old town called the Biosphere and they’ve Zara and Foot Locker and the shops like that. Ya do get a nice bit of aloe vera as well in Lanzarote.
Avoid the Hindu electronic shops. Sony hasn’t got a H in it, not even in Lanzarote!
