Meself and Gloria got a train from Zurich to Feldkirch in Austria and then a trip into Liechtenstein. It is a real country and all, very small but a country none the less. If ya wanna fly there, ya have to fly to Zurich, so tough!
Well I’m goin’ to level with ya, there’s no hotels in Vaduz and the ones that are there are stupidly expensive. Bollix to that. We stayed just across the border in a little Austrian town called Feldkirch which reminded me a bit of Navan. The bus is only €2 and it’s about 20 mins away so you’re as well off. I’m goin’ to be honest with ya, Liechtenstein is kinda like that film The Village. I’m glad I didn’t sleep there to be honest.
Austria. Ah no there’s a few places in Vaduz. Believe it or not, there’s a McDonalds drive thru! Other than that, there’s a few restaurants although ya’d probably have to sell your first born to afford the bleedin’ food. We went to the Liechtenstinian version of Supervalu and got rolls to eat on the way back into Austria. Red Bull is cheap coz it’s made nearby. Isn’t that mad.
Let’s not lie, it’s hardly the bleedin’ centre of European nightlife. We were goin’ to go for a drink but ended up gettin’ bored. We thought we’d check out a nightclub but not a hope was I goin’ to try and find one and given the way the rest of the country was, the likelyhood of me findin’ the Liechtensteinish version of Q-Bar was slim. For those who are interested, and I know a lot of people that read this are, I don’t think they have gays in Liechtenstein. I don’t think I saw one. Not even in Mexx.
Liechtenstein kinda reminds me of Blessington to be honest and I’d say there’s a lot more to do in Blessington. They don’t even have a Dunnes in Vaduz. There is a castle where the Prince lives although it wouldn’t be the type of place I’d live if I was ruler of a whole country but each to their own. I got really bored and thought I’d go see museums but they were closed of a Monday! Except the post museum but that was just the one room and I got bored after about a minute. The toilet was nice.
Make sure ya come and see Liechtenstein no matter how small and borin’ it seems. It’s worth it to see the nice mountains! Bring walkin’ shoes or a good pair of Nikes if you’re goin’ to visit the castle. Ignore all the signs that say private property. Just go through the gardens for the quickest way to get anywhere. Wave at people in Bentleys and Porsches. They’re probably the prince’s kids.
